Professor Ernst Fuchs
Born in 1930 in Vienna, Ernst Fuchs is now regarded as one of the today’s foremost artists. His extensive oeuvre, consisting of numerous works typical of different forms of artistic expression, includes paintings and drawings- from miniatures to monumental wall-sized sculptures - many subjects converted into prints, imposing sculptures, enormous stage sets, prose, musical compositions , ingenious architectural designs and philosophical texts. His outstanding painting is however what he is best-known for. It has decisively characterised him as an artist and brought him the greatest recognition from fellow painters, professionals, and a large following. Even world-famous surrealist Salvador Dali knew about the impressive skill of the Austrian artistic genius. He often visited Ernst Fuchs while he was painting, and watched him in fascinated rapture for hours on end.
Today, Professor Fuchs spends almost every day in his studio. There an admirable creative urge drives him on to complete large imposing works that he has already been working on for nearly two decades. The motifs, rich in fantastic elements and symbolism convincingly explain why Ernst Fuchs is frequently referred to as to the illustrious title "Malerfürst" (prince of painting).
In 2005, Ernst Fuchs commissioned the team of the Galerie Menssen to publish four new, particularly beautiful works - the most recent portfolio- with exclusive worldwide rights to market them. The world edition of the captivating works of art, consisting of two-hundred and fifty numbered, autographed and hand-coloured lithographs, is henceforth offered by the Menssen artgallery as the Dionysus cycle.
